The four and the five elements
Four and five elements
The elements that are referred to by the terms Fire, Earth, Air and Water are also known in alchemy. Yet alchemy works with a series of five elements: In addition to these four, it also distinguishes the element of Ether. With this addition, the blueprint for Creation is set up with five aspects, which implies an essential difference in approach compared to astrology’s fourfold division.
Different foundation
In simple terms: The five elements are based on a different division of the circle, and therefore on a different foundation than the four angular points in the circle of the Zodiac.
Apart from our later discussion of the aspects, in which they will be mentioned again, it falls outside of the scope of this website to further explore these five elements. Therefore I will limit myself to referring to the five prana’s and the five senses that are supposed to be related to these prana's, as well as to the Chinese healing art of acupuncture.
Confusion of concepts
However, because of the similarity of the terms, these four and those five elements are often mixed up with each other. That this leads to misunderstandings goes without saying.
